Barbarian Marker Sketch

Here's a marker sketch I worked on off-and-on all day yesterday. I had forgotten how fun markers can be, but I have a limited range of colors, so I couldn't go too crazy. Enjoy!

Showed this blog to a friend (Matt Paradigm) a few weeks ago and in response to the Rock n' Roll excess challenge he sketched Hank Williams III (country excess?) in my sketchbook. I inked it a few days ago and scanned it today.

Not sure if that is breaking the rules but oh well.

Nosferatu??... Shirtless…

I hope I’m not offending anyone by posting so often, if so please tell me. I’m just having a lot of fun with this, and I hope everyone else is too. I did this one while having a smoke outside on this nice hot day. Done with pieces of old dried wood mulch stuff, on the slate walkway in front of my parents house.

process

Always wonder how much process you guys go through before posting your work (?) I know these are supposed to be sketchy but most of us scribble a few variations before settling on something.

Instead of multiplying my drawing over my painting I lowered the opacity of the layers I was painting on to see my drawing below. I didn't want to include my original sketch in the painting at all but I ended up painting in too many outlines anyways. Painting in photoshop is like using markers more than it is like using real paint.

Still trying to get some kind of workflow I am comfortable with.

Still learning how to digitally paint well / fast. This took farrr too long and I am not very happy with it.

Vampire drawing I did in between pencilling and inking this weeks Learning Well strip. Came out okay. I'll thank Dr Sketchy's for reminding me to loosen up already.

Frank 'n Bride

I had some free time so I figured I’d pop another one out. It started as a sketch at work then I decided to scan it in and practice my photoshop coloring. Frank’s colors came out too muddy for my taste.

Giant Gila Monster

Don't try to run. It knows you are there, it can taste your fear with its tongue. Or at least your mild shock as you think, "Is that a really big gila monster?" Say goodbye to your vehicle, because nothing enrages the gila monster more than hot rods driven by cocky young teenagers.

So maybe its not a classic monster, but I felt it deserved to be honored with a poorly rendered sketch, at least.

I was inspired by your bad ass’ery Ben! I downloaded Alchemy and gave it a go, I like it. It’s different and takes a little bit to getting use to, but it’s fun! Thanks for the link to download it.

...This one was done with Alchemy Alpha 7.0 with just a slight color tweak in Adobe Photoshop afterwards. I promise I'll do a different monster next time...

I'm definitely in the horrible undead monster school of thought when it comes to vampires. It's much closer to their mythological origins than a lame book by a syphilitic (and Count Orlock was way scarier than fancy pants Dracula anyway)...
